Effect of MYC Extracts on Cholesterol-lowering and Anti-obesity Effects in Zucker rats Fed a High-Fat Diet

Abstract

|
The aims of this study were to evaluate the anti-obesity of MYC extracts in male Zucker fa/- rats fed high rat diets for 8 week. Experimental groups were divided into 5 groups; a normal diet group(ND), a high fat diet group(HFD), a high fat diet and MYC extracts 1% group(HFD+MYC 1%), a high fat diet and MYC extracts 3% group(HFD+MYC 3%) and a high fat diet and MYC extracts 5% group(HFD+MYC 5%). The body weight gain, liver and epididymal adipose tissue weights of HFD group were heavier than those of ND group, whereas those of groups administered MYC extracts were gradually decreased. The concentration of serum triglyceride and total cholesterol were significantly decreased in high fat diet and MYC extracts groups compared to HFD group. Levels of total cholesterol, lipid and bile acid in liver were significantly lower in MYC extracts administration groups than those in HFD group. Levels of total cholesterol, lipid and bile acid in feces were significantly higher in MYC extracts administration groups than those in HFD group. These results suggest that oral feeding of the MYC extracts may have anti-obesity effect by suppressing body weight gain, liver, epididymal adipose tissue weights and lipid metabolism of serum.
